About the role
The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. Key responsibilities include radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, handling and placing signs and equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with rules.
- Ensure all personnel adhere to safety requirements of the railroad.
- Prepare and submit required electronic forms including job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports.
- Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds.
- Participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
- Maintain open communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
- Uphold the organization's standards of integrity, accountability, and respect.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.
Requirements
- Able to complete required physical demands and tasks.
- Able to effectively warn roadway workers of approaching trains.
- Understand on-track safety training and qualification requirements.
- Proficient in radio procedures for communication between RWICs and work groups.
- Proficient in performing job briefings with all roadway workers.
- Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
- Able to install railroad derails and apply locking devices.
- Proficient in electronic communications and standard office applications.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- At least 20 years of experience as a supervisor track inspection (STI), assistant track supervisor (ATS), Foreman, or higher, OR 20 years of experience as a RWIC while employed by a Class I or Class II freight railroad.
