This position is essential for providing on-site roadway worker protection and coordinating train movements.
Responsibilities
- Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with the rules; including but not limited to radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, and granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limits
- Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure all personnel adhere to the safety requirements of the railroad
- Prepare and submit required electronic forms including but not limited to: a job setup form for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as required
- Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds, which may be necessary multiple times throughout the day
- Actively participate in routine reoccurring safety classes and qualification training
- Maintain a high level of communication with the RWIC supervisors and managers regarding the various assignments and schedules
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values
- Uphold the organization’s standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all duties and interactions
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
- Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs
Qualifications
- Able to complete required physical demands and/or tasks
- Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
- Understand the on-track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
- Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group
- Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
- Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
- Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
- Proficient with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
