About the role

This position assesses patients and safely performs routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
• Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
• Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
• Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (may include placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and administration of contrast).
• Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
• Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performs notification/remediation as warranted.
• Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance.

Requirements

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR ARRT registry eligible, registered within 90 days of employment.
• Temporary state license required.
• Current unrestricted license in the state of practice.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Radiologic Technology experience.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
• Works in a patient care area, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that could contain diseases.
• Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment.
