About the role

This position is a chance to advance important statewide programs that protect families and communities. You will work with skilled professionals and partner organizations to expand the reach of critical radon initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership: Direct statewide radon programs and guide certification activities for radon testers, mitigators, and laboratories
  • Staff Oversight: Supervise Radon Section Chiefs and ensure effective operations and training for division staff
  • Quality Management: Maintain data accuracy across electronic systems and oversee updates to procedures, policies, and guidance
  • Interagency Coordination: Work with EPA, state partners, and other DEP programs to align goals, manage grants, and share information
  • Public Engagement: Prepare technical materials, deliver presentations, and support outreach efforts such as Radon Awareness Month
  • Administrative Management: Handle division scheduling, recruitment, and emergency response readiness

Qualifications

  • Four years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards, that includes two years of supervisory experience, and certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics; or
  • Five years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards, that includes two years of supervisory experience, and possession of a certificate of registration issued by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists; or
  • Two years as a Radiation Protection Program Supervisor or Nuclear Safety Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards, that includes two years of supervisory experience, and a bachelor’s degree in health physics, radiation physics, radiation biology, nuclear physics or applied health physics; or
  • Six years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards, that includes two years of supervisory experience, and a bachelor’s degree with major course work in the physical, biological or radiological sciences or in nuclear engineering, that includes 20 credits in health physics or radiological sciences; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years of supervisory experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards.
