About the role
The Radiation Therapy Manager provides leadership and oversight for the treatment machines and CT Simulator within the Department of Radiation Oncology at Cooley Dickenson Hospital (CDH). This role is responsible for managing Radiation Therapists and Lead Radiation Therapists while ensuring high-quality, safe and efficient patient care. Serving as both a technical and clinical expert, the Radiation Therapy Manager oversees treatment delivery, simulation processes, patient scheduling, and department operations. The position plays a key role in maintaining clinical excellence, optimizing workflows, and supporting a collaborative care environment.
Responsibilities
- Safeguard the proper level of staffing within all treatment areas and provide coverage as needed.
- Monitor patient schedules to ensure adequate patient volumes.
- Collaborate with Lead Therapists to develop new techniques or resolve clinical issues.
- Resolve complex treatment setups and train staff in these areas.
- Promote continuous improvement and standardization of treatment techniques.
- Triage emergent cases, coordinate on-call activities, and negotiate patient scheduling with other care team members.
- Maintain accuracy and efficiency in the use of the electronic medical record (EMR) and Record and Verify system.
- Teach and assist others in the proper use of the EMR system.
- Manage team during equipment failures and inform patients and other departments accordingly.
- Stay informed about CDH institutional initiatives and implement necessary changes.
- Order and maintain radiation treatment supplies and immobilization devices, working with vendors as needed.
- Develop, revise, and implement policies and procedures for external beam treatments and new programs.
- Evaluate and ensure radiation therapist competence and compliance with annual competencies.
- Participate in the departmental Quality Improvement (QI) committee and present QI initiatives.
- Conduct annual merit reviews for radiation therapists.
- Create and implement orientation plans for new therapy staff.
- Hire and recruit highly skilled Radiation Therapists.
- Adapt to variable patient volumes and coordinate contingency plans.
- Assess financial resources, operational budgets, and capital expenditures related to CDH therapist staffing.
- Organize and conduct regular staff meetings.
- Attend and support various departmental meetings.
- Engage in professional development and attend relevant educational activities.
- Lead meetings and support management-related activities.
- Participate in professional activities and serve on committees or task forces.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
- ARRT registered RT(T).
- MA RT(T) license.
- 5-7 years as a Radiation Therapist with 1-2 years in a lead, manager, or supervisory role.

- Proficient technical knowledge and skill set, including efficient knowledge of all equipment operation, tools, and procedures specific to assigned area.
