The Quality Technician is primarily responsible for evaluating parts produced on various lines (electro-mechanical components and subassemblies, welding, powder coat, general/final assembly), and end-of-line testing in a high-speed environment, ensuring Tesla standards are met by flagging suspect or nonconforming parts, supporting containment activities, and promoting a culture of quality. This role minimizes defective parts sent to downstream departments, assists multiple teams in maintaining and improving overall part quality, and yields beneficial results for higher efficiency.
What You'll Do
- Guiding production teams to properly disposition parts as good for use, need repair, or scrap, while documenting and communicating identified defects
- Escalating unresolved concerns to the quality engineering team and direct manager
- Comprehending current production quality standards, determining if ongoing production meets those standards, and executing efficiently against provided instructions
- Self-validating work for accuracy, checking the quality of previous operations, and meeting critical deadlines
- Providing day-to-day production support on quality concerns and developing/implementing short- and long-term countermeasures to quality problems while maintaining operational efficiency
- Communicating emerging and trending quality issues to prevent negative impact to the factory, aligning with the Quality engineering team to support incoming and in-process quality activities
- Verbal providing constructive feedback, defining/iterating/documenting standard work, and suggesting process improvements
- Maintaining detailed daily record keeping and reporting of quality issues referenced by technicians, engineers, and management
- Constructing and maintaining strong relationships with members of all nearby teams in multiple departments
What You'll Bring
- A high level of attention to detail, with the ability to identify and differentiate between several defect types, determine severity and required response, and apply critical thinking skills to engage and troubleshoot new quality issues
- Knowledge in basic measurement and inspection tools (e.g., calipers, torque wrenches, gauges, measuring tape) is a plus; experience with electro-mechanical components, welding, powder coating, or assembly processes is desirable
- Communicating test results, ideas, and problems to supervisor and engineers; ability to be part of the solution, with strong verbal and written communication skills in English, the ability to build solid relationships with several teams in multiple departments, and personable effectiveness in a fast-paced team environment
- Absolutely essential physical demands: ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day; standing and walking for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain; frequently and repetitively lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs; bending, lifting, reaching to install parts; climbing and maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures; stooping, laying, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and crawling for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day; finding issues in a work process and receiving safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing; wearing personal protective equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, arm protection, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
