The Metrology technician at Megafactory will work as a member of the Metrology group in the Quality organization. They will be assigned to operate and/or program metrology equipment on a regular basis. The technician role will involve providing and ensuring accurate measurements and reports on parts critical for Tesla manufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Enable inspection/verification of parts and assemblies using a CMM, Measurement Arm, Laser Tracker and/or other digital 3D devices as well as conventional hardware (calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Create measurement programs using PolyWorks and PC-DMIS software for SPC or investigations requests
- Provide, check, and analyze data and output reports to assist in quality improvement activities
- Cookordination calibration activities, ensure that all test and measurement equipment is calibrated prior to use
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) best practices across departments
- Work with the Quality Engineering Team in regard to continuous improvement activities, solving problems and improving overall product quality – may include various physical tasks from time to time with regard to moving parts and equipment
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree or at least 2 years’ experience in a metrology or quality role operating and programming any 3D digital equipment preferred, or equivalent experience
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings (including GD&T)
- Flexible hours, ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
- Proficient with Polyworks and/or VXElements software, 6DOF, point cloud alignments, laser scanning preferred
Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts; climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, arm protection, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
