About the role

The Metrology Technician in the Accuracy Control Department plays a crucial role in ensuring the precision and accuracy of ship and module alignments and measurements. This position involves determining appropriate tooling, completing measurements according to configuration controlled data sheets, and interfacing with various departments to ensure the success of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the proper tooling for the job and move it to the site
  • Complete measurements outlined on configuration controlled data sheets
  • Turn data over to Accuracy Control Representatives for confirmation
  • Routinely interface with Engineering, other trades, and Ship Management
  • Assist Shipfitters with difficult structural layouts
  • Support the accomplishment of dimensional control requirements (ACCP's)
  • Participate in the QP Continuous Improvement Program as needed

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant certification in Metrology or 1+ year of experience and/or training in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Metrology, Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM) or land surveying
  • Able to read, interpret, and work from complex manufacturing blueprints, technical manuals, shipyard procedures, and test documents
  • Ability to work all shifts, at heights, within confined spaces, and extreme temperature conditions
  • Willingness to support occasional travel to vendor sites
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Surveying Technology/Engineering Technology preferred
  • Previous experience with Robotics, previous experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment, previous metal fabrication experience, and/or military shipbuilding experience are preferred
  • Military/Navy experience is preferred
  • Strong math background with a working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry
