Quality Control Specialist Substation Control
About the role
The Quality Control Specialist will oversee and execute quality inspections during the fabrication of control houses for NextEra Energy initiatives in Ohio. This role is critical for ensuring that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the highest industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform quality control inspections of control houses fabricated for utility substations
- Verify wiring practices, panel assembly, and installation methods meet NextEra Energy standards
- Review drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams against field installations
- Ensure compliance with utility specifications, P&C standards, and safety requirements
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with fabrication teams
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and documentation for stakeholders
- Collaborate with NEEC engineering teams and NextEra project representatives
- Provide technical feedback during fabrication and pre-shipment inspections
Requirements
- Previous experience working with NextEra Energy or Florida Power & Light (FPL)
- Hands-on experience with substation Protection & Control (P&C) systems
- Strong understanding of control house wiring, relay panels, and utility standards
- Experience performing quality inspections or commissioning in utility environments
- Willingness to travel or temporarily reside in Ohio during project duration
Qualifications
- Former NextEra Energy / FPL employee or contractor
- Substation P&C technician or commissioning background
- Experience with control house fabrication or installation
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, relay panels, RTUs, and station communication systems

- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
