About the role

The Public Works Administrator (Architect) and Public Works Administrator (Engineer) positions within the Department of Accounting & General Services, Public Works Division, are open for immediate application. The roles involve administering statewide engineering, architectural, and related services under the jurisdiction of the State Comptroller, including land acquisition, planning, designing, project management, construction inspection, contracting, and equipping facilities and improvements for State agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Administers statewide engineering, architectural and related services of the Public Work Division under the jurisdiction of the State Comptroller.
  • Performs project management, construction inspection, contracting, and equipping facilities and improvements for State agencies.
  • Provides technical and analytical assistance to user agencies.
  • Revises contemplated leases for office spaces.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization To Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education/Experience:
    • Graduation with a bachelor's degree from a school of engineering in an accredited college or university.
    • All applicants must meet one of the requirements specified in A, B, C, D or E below.
  • Specialized Experience:
    • Engineering Experience: Progressively responsible professional engineering experience which required the knowledge and application of the basic physical and mathematical sciences and the engineering sciences to the solution of theoretical or practical engineering problems.
    • Architectural Experience: Professional architectural work experience in developing and preparing complete designs, drawings, specifications, estimates or building, structures and installations.
    • Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years of experience supervising professional engineers or architects which included training subordinates, coordinating and assigning workloads, evaluating performance, assisting in difficult and problem areas and maintaining high standards of work and timely accomplishment of work objectives.
    • Administrative Experience: Two (2) years of professional engineering or architectural experience which included active participation in and major responsibility for the planning (including budget planning and justification), organizing, staffing, policy formulation and implementation of same and directing a program, providing staff services and/or assistance.
  • Licenses: Applicants must possess a valid Hawaii state certificate of registration as a professional engineer or architect.
  • Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
