About the role

The Kentucky State Police is seeking a Public Safety Telecommunicator I to join their team. This role serves as a vital link between state Troopers and emergency management personnel, handling critical communications and dispatching assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Answer radio and telephone calls, including 911 in designated areas
  • Gather and relay pertinent information from each communication
  • Dispatch calls to police and other emergency management personnel
  • Provide pre-arrival instructions during medical emergencies
  • Operate the Computer Aided Dispatching system (CAD)
  • Utilize law enforcement systems nationwide to assist troopers and detectives with investigations

Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Certification as LINK/NCIC Operator within thirty days of employment
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher within sixty days of employment
  • Certification as a Telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) within twelve months of employment
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540

Benefits

The Kentucky State Police offers a comprehensive Field Training Program and a 5-week training academy to ensure successful completion of the role. Telecommunicators are also required to maintain necessary certifications and licenses throughout their employment.

Pay

$41,084.16 annually

Schedule

This position has a variable shift and requires staying at the Academy in Frankfort for the 5-week telecommunications academy. Afterward, the successful candidate will be required to work rotating shifts.
