About the role
The Department of Public Health and Recreation (PHR) at San José State University (SJSU) is seeking a dedicated faculty member to contribute to our dynamic public health programs. The PHR Department is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences and offers a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health with two concentrations and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a specialization in Community Health Education.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in undergraduate and/or graduate Public Health programs
- Collaborate with colleagues on public health curriculum-related processes
- Ensure a high-quality learning environment that is inclusive, student-centered, and contemporary
- Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for class management
- Adhere to accreditation requirements and continuously improve teaching and learning experiences
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in public health or a closely related field, minimum two years of professional experience in public health, and a commitment to teaching excellence in public health-related subjects.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in health-related subject areas at university or college levels
- Leadership or supervisory experience in public health or closely related fields
- Experience designing, teaching, and assessing undergraduate and graduate courses in-person, online, and in hybrid formats
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness in health-related subject areas at university or college levels
- Leadership or supervisory professional experience in public health or closely related fields
- Ability to effectively design, teach, and assess undergraduate and graduate courses in-person, online, and in hybrid formats
Benefits
The position offers competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience, ranging from L-A / Range 2: $2279 per WTU to L-D / Range 5: $3977 per WTU. Additional benefits include:

Pay
Salary range placement is determined by qualifications and experience. The rates shown below by range are the anticipated salary from the applicable Faculty Salary Schedule - 2322 to be paid per WTU.

The schedule for this position is flexible and will be determined based on the needs of the department and the individual’s qualifications.
