Special Sessions Lecturer Pool - School of Social Work
About the role
The School of Social Work at San José State University is seeking qualified, enthusiastic, and dedicated instructors to teach courses in their CSWE-accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) Online/Hybrid program. Courses cover various areas including social work history and policy, human behavior in the social environment, practice, research, and field education. Areas of interest include children, youth, and families, mental health, and health and aging.
Responsibilities
- Lecturers are responsible for effective curriculum preparation and teaching of courses in alignment with the School's vision and mission, including the Transcultural Perspective.
- Teach and evaluate adult learners effectively.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Attend meetings necessary to teach effectively the course and content areas they are assigned.
- Support activities and preparation needed to maintain accreditation.
- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity.
Requirements
- At least an MSW from a CSWE-accredited graduate social work program.
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
- Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring.
- Ability to teach and evaluate effectively adult learners.
- Social work practice experience (required for teaching practice courses).
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be collegial and collaborative.
- Good communication skills (written and oral).
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the trends in the social work profession in the context of diversity and globalization, including specializations with certain cultural and/or language groups.
- Ability to teach in online and in-person formats.
- Proficiency with computers, software, and technology.
- Experience with multimedia and social media relevant to teaching.

The School of Social Work offers a competitive salary range based on qualifications and experience. The rates shown below by range are the anticipated salary from the applicable Faculty Salary Schedule - 2322 to be paid per WTU in Special Session programs (a typical course is 3 WTUs):
- L-A / Range 2: $2279 per WTU
- L-B / Range 3: $2497 per WTU
- L-C / Range 4: $3146 per WTU
- L-D / Range 5: $3977 per WTU
Pay
Salary range placement is determined by qualifications and experience. The rates shown above by range are the anticipated salary from the applicable Faculty Salary Schedule - 2322 to be paid per WTU in Special Session programs (a typical course is 3 WTUs). As the salary schedule indicates, compensation may be reduced if enrollment targets are not met.
Schedule
The School of Social Work at San José State University is a continuing open position. Lecturers are expected to have a strong online presence and perform their duties during regular business hours in the Pacific Standard Time zone. Employment is contingent upon US residence and proof or eligibility to work in the United States.
