About the role

The Patient Registration Representative/Medical Records Specialist assists patients through the registration process, introduces them to the facility, and serves as a liaison between patients, family members, hospital management, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients during the registration process
  • Introduce patients to the facility to reduce anxiety
  • Work with other departments to ensure patient satisfaction and quality of services
  • Process health information including assembly of analysis, release of information, and processing of medical records
  • Handle difficult customers or situations with effective communication skills
  • Collect and balance cash, perform extensive clerical work with accuracy and speed
  • Be cross-trained on all processes and able to train staff on these processes

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a health care and/or customer service related industry
  • Prefer typing skills of forty (40) words per minute
  • Prefer basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications
  • Prefer general knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance
  • Prefer experience in patient interviewing
  • Prefer flexibility for weekend, holiday, and other shift work as scheduled is required based on departmental need
  • Prefer the ability to perform extensive clerical work with accuracy and speed
  • Prefer the ability to be cross-trained on all processes and be able to train staff on these processes

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate

Skills

  • Effective communication skills
  • Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications
  • General knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance
  • Experience in patient interviewing
  • Flexibility for weekend, holiday, and other shift work
  • Ability to perform extensive clerical work with accuracy and speed

Pay

This is a full-time flexible position consisting of three 12-hour shifts per week from 7:00am-7:30pm and requires flexibility for holidays and weekends.

Schedule

This position does not have a set schedule and requires flexibility as scheduled shifts are based on departmental needs.
