Pt Reg/Med Recs Specialist

About the role

The Patient Registration Representative/Medical Records Specialist assists patients through the registration process, introduces them to the facility, and serves as a liaison between patients, family members, hospital management, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients through the registration process
• Introduce patients to the facility to reduce anxiety
• Work with other departments to ensure patient satisfaction and quality of services
• Process health information including assembly of analysis, release of information, and processing of medical records

Requirements

• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a health care and/or customer service related industry
• Effective communication skills and ability to handle difficult customers or situations
• Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications
• General knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance
• Experience in patient interviewing
• Flexibility for weekend, holiday, and other shift work as scheduled
• The ability to collect post and balance cash
• The ability to perform extensive clerical work with accuracy and speed
• The ability to be cross-trained on all processes and train staff on these processes

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate

Skills

• Typing skills of forty (40) words per minute
• Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications
• General knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance
• Experience in patient interviewing
• Flexibility for weekend, holiday, and other shift work as scheduled
• The ability to collect post and balance cash
