Pt Reg/Med Recs Specialist
About the role
The Patient Registration Representative/Medical Records Specialist assists patients through the registration process, introduces them to the facility, and serves as a liaison between patients, family members, hospital management, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients during the registration process
- Introduce patients to the facility to reduce anxiety
- Work with other departments to ensure patient satisfaction and quality of services
- Process health information including assembly of analysis, release of information, and processing of medical records
Requirements
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a health care and/or customer service related industry
- Prefer typing skills of forty (40) words per minute
- Prefer effective communication skills and ability to handle difficult customers or situations
- Prefer basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications
- Prefer general knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance
- Prefer experience in patient interviewing
- Prefer flexibility for weekend, holiday, and other shift work as scheduled
- Prefer the ability to collect post and balance cash
- Prefer the ability to perform extensive clerical work with accuracy and speed
- Prefer the ability to be cross-trained on all processes and be able to train staff on these processes
Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate preferred
Skills
Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications, general knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance, experience in patient interviewing, flexibility for weekend, holiday, and other shift work, ability to collect post and balance cash, ability to perform extensive clerical work with accuracy and speed, ability to be cross-trained on all processes and train staff on these processes.
