Psychiatry Clerkship Director (Med Clinical Prof - Med Series)

About the role

The Psychiatry Clerkship Director oversees clerkship implementation by serving as a liaison among students, faculty, and school administration, and collaborates with site directors and affiliate faculty to monitor teaching and assessment across all clinical sites.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate a standardized didactic curriculum in Psychiatry for third-year medical students across all clinical sites.
• Lead interactive, student-centered educational sessions, typically held one afternoon per week.
• Direct the simulation-based end-of-clerkship OSCE at the NYSIM Center at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
• Ensure alignment of teaching with national curricular guidelines, as well as CUNY School of Medicine Educational Program Objectives (EPOs), Foundational Competencies (FCs), and clerkship-level learning objectives.
• Chair Clerkship Grading Committee meetings, oversee the grading process, and provide feedback to clinical site directors on evaluation practices.
• Serve on institutional committees, such as the Curriculum Committee and Admissions Committee.
• Mentor students and serve as a faculty advisor to student organizations, including the Psychiatry Special Interest Group (SIG).
• Contribute to broader medical education by participating in courses such as Practice of Medicine (POM), Organ Systems, Clinical Skills Assessment, and Introduction to Internship (ITI).

Qualifications

• Hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree; be board certified; and hold a current New York State physician’s license.
• Demonstrate a commitment to building equitable, diverse, and inclusive academic environments and be willing to advance the CUNY SOM’s mission.
• At least five (5) years of experience as a medical school course director, clerkship site director, residency director, or undergraduate medical educator, with the following characteristics:
  • Understanding of inclusive pedagogy as it relates to medical education.
  • Experience collaborating with professionals in a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and experience with curriculum development.
  • Ability to combine administrative, education and teaching responsibilities.
  • Outstanding communication and leadership skills to work collaboratively with faculty from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds to develop and implement a new integrated curriculum.
  • Demonstrated record of academic and scholarly activity.
  • Experience in supporting student academic success, particularly for members of underrepresented groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural and structural competence in an educational and work environment.

Pay

Salary Range: $175,000 - $227,755
Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Schedule

This full-time position includes dedicated time for clinical work, with scheduling flexibility to accommodate clinical practice.
