About the role

The Oregon Department of Human Services seeks a Psychiatric Crisis Counselor (Behavioral Health Specialist 2) to join the Stabilization and Crisis Unit Crisis Outreach Assessment Team (COAT) in the Salem/Keizer/Turner area. The position operates Monday - Friday, noon to 8 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Mental health/psychiatric intervention during crisis
  • Assessing individuals for stabilization
  • Building rapport with individuals and interdisciplinary support teams
  • Providing crisis support and consultation services
  • Conducting mental health assessments
  • Developing and implementing behavioral health interventions
  • Providing group and individual therapy sessions
  • Collaborating with community resources to support individuals

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • A Master’s degree in psychology, social work, recreational, art, or music therapy, or behavioral health science, with two years of experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing or occupational therapy, licensed by the State of Oregon, with three years of experience

Essential Attributes

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Crisis intervention experience
  • Experience with individuals who experience intellectual/developmental disabilities, often with co-occurring mental health diagnoses
  • Experience using computers and tablets for documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
