Psychiatric Crisis Counselor (Behavioral Health Specialist 2) – Central Region (Salem/Keizer/Turner Area)

About the role

The Oregon Department of Human Services seeks a Psychiatric Crisis Counselor (Behavioral Health Specialist 2) to join the Stabilization and Crisis Unit Crisis Outreach Assessment Team (COAT) in the Salem/Keizer/Turner area.

Responsibilities

• Mental health/psychiatric intervention during crisis
• Assessing individuals for effective therapeutic approaches
• Providing crisis support and consultation services
• Building rapport with individuals and interdisciplinary support teams
• Developing and implementing person-centered plans for stabilization
• Conducting mental health assessments, skills-building sessions, and therapy
• Collaborating with community resources to support mental health
• Providing life skills training, recreational activities, and community integration

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field, or Bachelor’s degree in nursing or occupational therapy with relevant experience
• Two years of experience in mental health assessments, interventions, and therapy
• Three years of experience in mental health assessments, interventions, and therapy
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health diagnoses
• Experience using computers and tablets for documentation and communication
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail
• Crisis intervention experience
• Experience with positive behavior support services
• Experience using THERAP and SharePoint systems
• Basic computer skills

• Knowledge of positive behavior support services
• Ability to work with individuals who may be combative or unpredictable
• Ability to pass and maintain OIS, CPR, and First Aid certifications

$6,574 - $9,190 annually
