About the role

The Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Oregon, is seeking a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to join the Behavioral Health Services team. This role involves identifying and assessing mentally ill and developmentally disabled individuals, conducting mental status examinations, suicide assessments, developing treatment interventions, and providing crisis services.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and assesses mentally ill and developmentally disabled individuals
  • Conducts mental status examinations
  • Conducts suicide assessments
  • Develops treatment interventions and behavior plans
  • Provides crisis services
  • Performs initial identification and assessments
  • Engages in crisis intervention
  • Prevents suicide
  • Maintains case management
  • Provides treatment services
  • Manages client records
  • Plans client release
  • Facilitates consultations and training
  • Facilitates group sessions

Requirements

This position requires a graduate degree in psychology, social work, recreational therapy, art therapy, music therapy, or behavioral health science; or possession of a current QMHP certification; or a combination of education and experience as detailed in the qualifications and required skills section.

Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in psychology, social work, recreational therapy, art therapy, music therapy, or behavioral health science
  • A current QMHP certification
  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing and licensure by the State of Oregon
  • A bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and licensure by the State of Oregon
  • A qualified Mental Health Intern as defined in 309-019-0105(61)

Schedule

Full-time position in Salem at Oregon State Penitentiary, working in a 24/7 facility with varying shifts including early, late, and weekend shifts. Contact with adults in custody during treatment/consultation, at times out of visual range of security staff, and exposure to potentially hostile situations or incidents.
