Prosecutor (#021905) Criminal Prosecution Division, Columbia (RICHLAND)
Job Responsibilities
Assigned as a Special Assistant Attorney General, individual prosecutes criminal cases containing a SCDC nexus before the SC state grand jury as well as in all judicial circuits throughout the state upon approval by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.
Authority to prosecute is pursuant to a memorandum of understanding between SCDC and the AG's office.
Manages a personal caseload of cases for prosecution.
Affords legal advice to special agents on search warrants, evidence, and future legal issues etc.
Affords legal advice on criminal matters to the Director, Senior Executive Staff and other agency personnel in matters of state and federal law.
Assists in drafting legislation and regulations.
Responds to correspondence from attorneys, court officials, state agencies regarding SCDC criminal cases.
Provides legal advice on criminal matters to the Director, Senior Executive Staff and other agency personnel in matters of state and federal law.
Provides agency personnel with education and guidance in areas related to criminal issues during in-service training and other forums as directed.
Affords legal advice on criminal matters to the Director, Senior Executive Staff and other agency personnel in matters of state and federal law.
Produces documents and other information to defendants or their lawyers, upon request and as required by law on cases actively being prosecuted by the Criminal Prosecution Division.
Must be available to respond after hours in person or by phone to serious crime scenes and emergencies to provide legal advice.
Requirements
Juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina bar.
Must have satisfied the 403 Requirements.
Qualifications
Prosecutorial experience preferred.
