Pay

Salary range: $56,367.00 – $90,040.00. This range represents a national range; actual salary will depend on role scope, complexity, skills, education, training, credentials, geographic location, and experience. Position may be eligible for an annual bonus payment.

About the role

This is a work-from-home position with a provided company car and paid gas card. The ideal candidate will live and work within the assigned territory covering Marysville, Union, Dublin, Logan, Marion, and Delaware, Ohio. The hiring manager will also consider candidates for Property Adjuster II; the level offered will be based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise independent discretion or judgment in handling property claims within designated authority.
  • Contact policyholders regarding property claims; conduct investigations, interviews, and damage inspections; prepare estimates.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations regarding coverage of claims.
  • Handle property claims within designated authority, set and maintain adequate reserves, and issue or decline payments.
  • Obtain and review reports, statements, records, and related materials to determine coverage and total claim value.
  • Document claim files and submit final reports for closure.
  • Identify subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action.
  • Service assigned territory and bring claims to conclusion.
  • Interact with agents and district sales managers on matters of mutual concern.
  • Handle property claims involving damages or coverage, including litigated claims; negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate litigation with defense counsel.
  • Develop and apply working knowledge of estimating practices and procedures for property claims adjustment.
  • Attend industry-related training and stay current on policy changes, interpretation, or new legislation.
  • Successfully complete Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire.
  • Participate on Catastrophe Team when required.

The first five duties listed are essential functions of the job. Employees may be required to perform additional duties as requested by their supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education, or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company.
  • Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training.
  • Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to serve on catastrophe duty, which may include travel on short notice for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks.

  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
  • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment (Often: 20-50%).
  • Climbing/accessing heights (Often: 20-50%).
  • Driving (Frequent: 50-80%).
  • Lifting/moving 0-20 lbs (Often: 20-50%).
  • Lifting/moving 20-50 lbs (Often: 20-50%).
  • Manual keying/data entry/computer use (Often: 20-50%).
  • Pushing/pulling/moving objects or equipment with wheels (Occasional: <20%).
