Material Damage Adjuster I (Columbus, OH)

About the role

This position is based in Ohio with work-from-home flexibility for the Columbus area, including Franklin, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Madison, and Union counties.

Responsibilities

• Appraises material damage claims and total losses as received by assignment.
• Negotiates settlement of claims and disposes of salvage within authority.
• Makes arrangements with repair shops, policyholders or claimants to inspect vehicles.
• Photographs damaged areas and writes estimates on all claims when necessary.
• Determines rental needs and controls costs according to company guidelines.
• Negotiates with repair shops on cost of repairs.
• Establishes value and settles total losses.
• Handles disposal of salvage within authority.
• Distinguishes cause of damage for appropriate policy coverage.
• Issues settlement checks and keeps appropriate records.
• Establishes rapport with agents and claims adjusters.
• Contacts policyholders and claimants regarding complaints stemming from original adjustment.
• Attends appropriate training sessions.
• Handles all material damage claims as assigned.
• At the request of underwriting, evaluates antique and classic cars for coverage value.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in a body shop, general claims handling, or completion of a formal Erie Insurance training program required.
• Must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company.
• Position requires serving on catastrophe duty, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Qualifications

• Completion of a General Insurance program preferred.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses.

Physical Requirements

• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for this role.
• Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aid equipment.
• Occasional: climbing/accessing heights; driving.
• Frequent (50–80%): lifting/moving 0–20 lbs; manual keying/data entry/inputting information/computer use; pushing/pulling/moving objects or equipment with wheels.
• Occasional: lifting/moving 20–50 lbs.

Pay

The salary range for this level is $50,327.00 – $80,392.00. The actual salary will depend on factors including the scope and complexity of the role, skills, education, training, credentials, location (state), and experience of the applicant, as well as the level of role for which the successful candidate is hired. This position may be eligible for an annual bonus payment.
