Position Summary

This important role will analyze, classify and record property accounting transactions including but not limited to unitization, asset transfers and reserve adjustments. Continually develop new and improved processes within the department for reporting and project work as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Review property closures, retirements, and transfers. Validate accuracy compared to the FERC guidelines.
  • Instruct other staff members on how to correct issues found.
  • Provide assistance and or recommendations as needed on any enhancements or upgrades to the PowerPlan system.
  • Understand all FERC property accounting rules and assist others with these rules.
  • Analyze all Continuing Property Records (CPR) for the department in an orderly and accurate manner. Instruct operations if needed on how to correct inconsistencies.
  • Analyze CPR transactions in compliance with GAAP and FERC regulations.
  • Prepare journal entries for the property department as well as account reconciliations.
  • Perform assigned duties in a professional manner to facilitate the objectives and goals of the company and to enhance the image of the Property Accounting Department.
  • Lead various projects as assigned.
  • Take ownership of team and ensure timely, accurate and complete accounting and analysis for all work assigned.
  • Train any new team members within the Property department.
  • Help in developing all training documentation required for new Property employees.
  • Respond to requests in a timely manner. Requests may come from external audit and other departments such as financial managers, project managers, regulatory/rate cases and internal audit.
  • Ensure information provided is accurate and presented in a useful and understandable format.

    What Is Required

    • All Levels: Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Level II: Minimum of 3 years of accounting related experience is required.
    • Senior: Minimum of 5 years of accounting related experience is required.

    What Is Desired

    • Regulated Accounting experience.
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) upon hire.
    • Broad understanding of accounting principles, theories and practices of business units.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Experience with PowerPlan software.
    • Knowledge of FERC accounting.
    • Experience with PeopleSoft accounting software.
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner while working in a dynamic environment and adapting to changing priorities.
    • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and computer skills.
    • Ability to work independently and with a team.
    • Ability to lead a team.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business information.
    • Must be flexible and willing to accept new job responsibilities and assignments.
