Big Rapids Lumber & Hardware is seeking a Project Building Construction Estimator to serve customers in Big Rapids, MI. This role involves engaging with walk-in and phone-in customers, providing pricing and product information, and contributing to company goals.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with pricing, product, and delivery status information.
- Read and interpret architectural drawings.
- Apply knowledge of building materials, finishes, and their usage.
- Use basic math skills and serve as a cooperative resource to customers and colleagues.
- Utilize technology including email, phones, internet, MS Office, Epicor, and vendor programs.
- Maintain general knowledge of all BRL&H products and services.
- Review and evaluate requests for estimates; prepare project information as needed.
- Lead and participate in estimate strategy planning and detailed quantity take-offs.
- Prepare take-off spreadsheets and review estimates for efficiency.
- Attend client pre-bid meetings, job showings, and site visits; maintain detailed notes.
- Maintain cost estimating tools (databases, spreadsheets) to track past performance and industry standards.
- Evaluate alternative project execution approaches for cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain communication between departments, project managers, and clients regarding cost estimating.
- Demonstrate flexibility in handling changing priorities and timelines.
- Lead bid reviews and assist with tasks to ensure corporate success.

Pay
$40,000–$60,000 annually.
Schedule
Facility hours: Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–6:00 PM, Saturday 8:00 AM–3:00 PM. Flexible schedule with occasional Saturdays required (1–2 per month). Full and part-time positions available.
