Project Accountant - Construction (On-site, Galveston, TX)

About the role

We are a family-owned construction company with long-term stability seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant with construction industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update job cost ledgers and job-cost reporting, regular reconciliation of job costs to budgets
• Track and manage accounts receivable for projects; follow up on collections and maintain aging schedules
• Create, track, and reconcile purchase orders; coordinate with project managers and procurement to control costs
• Enter and manage project data in CMIC and QuickBase; produce reports and analysis to support decision-making
• Prepare project-related journal entries, month-end close support, and variance analysis
• Communicate daily with site management, project managers, and office accounting to resolve discrepancies
• Assist Controller and Senior Accountant with ad-hoc financial projects and audit support

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in construction accounting or project accounting
• Proficiency with CMIC and QuickBase; strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
• Strong job-costing knowledge and experience managing AR and purchase orders for construction projects
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively

Preferred Experience

• With lien waivers, change-order accounting, and construction contracts
• Familiarity with payroll coordination for construction crews

• Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
• Sustained visual and mental applications and demands
• Occasional lifting (up to 15 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying
