Full-time, non-exempt position under the supervision of the Library Director.

About the role

The Programming Coordinator leads the development of programming for all ages, with a focus on young adults (12-18) and adults (18+). This includes collaboratively creating long-term programming plans and evaluations. The role also involves selecting books, media, and other materials for the Young Adult collection in alignment with the library’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Create, implement, and maintain programs and services for all ages, emphasizing young adults and adults, including establishing goals and priorities for general programming.
  • Cultivate online and print collections for young adults, develop a long-term collection development plan for the Young Adult collection, and assist Children’s Services with other children’s collections as needed.
  • Conduct unique outreach to children and young adults in collaboration with schools, parent groups, and local organizations.
  • Promote collections, programs, and services in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator.
  • Lead the planning and programming of biannual reading challenges.
  • Assist with existing children’s and family programming when needed (e.g., story time, bilingual story time, STEM programming).
  • Stay informed of trends in literature and issues in library services and programming through professional development such as workshops, conferences, or online classes; travel to in-state and national conferences may be required.
  • Solicit feedback from patrons to develop activities and programming that best meet their needs.
  • Perform operational functions of the library such as circulation and reference services, shelving, and shelf reading.
  • Develop and promote the usage of the library’s new Creation Station.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience with program planning.
  • Experience working with children and/or young adults.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency with current computer technology and software (MS Office, Google Workspace, etc.).
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate technology programs and software to patrons of all ages.
  • General understanding of different book formats (e.g., ebooks, audiobooks).
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to respond calmly to stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (preferred but not required).
  • Willingness to travel to conferences or events within and outside Colorado.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.

Physical Activity & Work Environment

  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to see close up and far away, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement, hot, or cold weather as required for County events or local emergencies.

Pay

$23 - $25/hour.
