Position Summary
Immigration Duties/Responsibilities
- Serve as Designated School Official (DSO for F-1 visas) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO for J-1 visas)
- Aid Executive Director with SEVIS requirements and compliance of federal regulations
- Conduct continuous checking of student compliance with immigration requirements
- Offer semestral workshops and continuous communication with students on immigration issues
Data and Process Management
- Manage the immigration process post-admission
- Estimate and update the annual cost for immigration purposes
- Manage ISSM database for nonresident alien student population and initiate reports as needed
- Maintain International Events Database and Post-Admissions database
Programming
- Develop campus and community events and activities aligned with the University’s strategic goals
- Coordinate the Friendship Family Program, Small World Program, Cultural Activities, and other programs and workshops
- Plan, organize, and chaperone day or longer trips to regional areas of interest
- Coordinate events for National International Education Week and International Week
- Implement needs assessment and propose improvements of processes and services based on data
Outreach Program
- Provide cultural trainings for faculty and staff
- Advertise, hire, train, and supervise international orientation leaders
- Implement assessment for orientation feedback and use data to develop reports and recommendations
Social Media and Marketing
- Develop and produce electronic newsletter/communication for international students
- Manage the CIP social media and assist in creating social media annual strategic plan with IEP and Study Abroad
- Update the CIP website and printed materials as needed
- Solicit funding in support of USI international programs and activities
- Serve as Advisor to International Club; provide assistance with leadership development, budget oversight, and program development and implementation
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in related field with two or more years of experience in immigration advising and program planning and implementation
- Demonstrated ability to work in, update, and design workflows in various systems and databases used for retention and communications
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex procedures and processes related to international students
- Knowledge of immigration regulations pertaining to F and J visas, including SEVIS reporting requirements and knowledge of Department of Homeland Security regulations
- Strong organizational, attention to details, and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop and present workshops and programs
- Possess understanding of the educational, cultural, social and recreational needs of the international students
- Demonstrated ability to work as effective team member
- Proficiency in using Office 365, Outlook, Access, Excel, Teams, Bookings, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including cross-cultural communication competencies
- Proven commitment to diverse perspectives, internationalization of institutional environments, and a strong career interest in the field of international education
- NAFSA affiliation
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Knowledge And Skills
- Master’s degree with one year of experience in immigration advising and program planning and implementation strongly preferred
- Familiarity with international cultures and fluency in a Spanish or other secondary language strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in, update, and design workflows in various systems and databases used for retention and communications preferred
