About the role
HANAC, Inc. is a New York City-based social services organization founded in 1972 to serve vulnerable populations. The Program Coordinator will oversee the Summer Rising program, supporting approximately 240 elementary school-aged participants.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Program Leadership team in overseeing all aspects of program operations.
- Develop and manage a structured daily schedule integrating DOE-led academics and HANAC-led enrichment activities.
- Ensure programming aligns with Summer Rising core areas: academic enrichment and literacy, community building and leadership, health, wellness, and physical activity, arts and STEM-based enrichment.
- Support the development and implementation of engaging, culturally responsive lesson plans.
- Supervise a team of group leaders, activity specialists, and support staff.
- Conduct regular observations and provide coaching to ensure high-quality instruction and youth engagement.
- Maintain staff accountability, including attendance, performance, and adherence to HANAC and school policies.
- Work closely with program administration to ensure full compliance with HANAC, DYCD, OCFS, and NYCPS policies, including daily attendance tracking, incident reporting, and proper staff-to-student ratios.
- Oversee safe arrival, dismissal, and transitions throughout the school day.
- Maintain accurate documentation including rosters, emergency contacts, and timesheets.
- Ensure all classrooms and activity spaces are safe, organized, and conducive to learning.
- Foster strong relationships with families through regular communication, orientation sessions, and events.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to manage a large, fast-paced program (100+ students).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and attendance/data systems (e.g., DYCD Connect).
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Youth Development, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory experience in after-school, summer camp, or DYCD-funded programs.
- Experience working in NYC public schools or DYCD-funded programs strongly preferred.
- Experience working with diverse, multilingual communities.
