About the Role
This position supports the YMCA’s mission to strengthen the community through programs that promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development. The role involves collaboration with the Program & Summer Camp Director to lead staff, volunteers, and participants in executing high-quality, safe, and impactful programs.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Program & Summer Camp Director to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development, serving as a role model for staff and participants.
- Create and lead staff and volunteers in executing campaigns, programs, camps, sports leagues, and curriculum while ensuring safety, licensing standards, and high customer service.
- Plan and organize youth and adult programming, including StepUP, TeenREACH, vacation camp, and sports leagues, while adhering to budget objectives.
- Assist with after-school programming, providing active supervision of participants as needed.
- Organize Saturday youth sports leagues and weekend tournaments.
- Compile program statistics to evaluate participation and effectiveness; secure, schedule, and maintain program equipment, fields, and facilities.
- Promote YMCA programs and services to existing and potential members.
- Assist with staff and volunteer recruitment, communication, development, and management, including maintaining schedules.
- Spend summers onsite at CLC YMCA and/or Boothbay YMCA day camps.
- Build effective relationships with staff, participants, guardians, and community partners to maximize program impact.
- Assist in ensuring operations are safe and clean at all times.
- Handle administrative tasks, including processing registrations, following up on collections, and optimizing program capacity.
- As a Mandated Reporter, recognize signs of abuse or neglect and report them to the supervisor and appropriate authorities.
- Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
- MRTQ Certifications within 30 days of hire.
- High School degree or GED, or equivalent experience.
- Team player with superb interpersonal skills and the ability to work positively with co-workers and the public.
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, lead others, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
- General computer skills with the ability to learn and use new software effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with access to a personal vehicle preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, push, pull, bend, lift, and row.
- Must use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, printer, and copier.
- Requires close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to transition between indoor and outdoor environments and withstand drastic changes in temperature and weather.
Work Environment
- Work is performed at a community campus serving all people, with occasional stress due to multi-tasking and deadlines.
- Requires attendance outside of regular business hours (9am – 5pm), including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Most programming occurs after school, evenings, and on weekends; summer camps are active between 7:30am – 5:30pm.
- Noise levels can vary significantly.
