About the role

The Program Coordinator for Student Engagement serves on the team supporting students at the University of Virginia by promoting holistic leadership development, connecting students to resources, cultivating their passions, and building community. The Program Coordinator will manage the Student Engagement Marketing operations and plan and execute programming across Grounds, particularly at Newcomb Info Desk and the Student Engagement Center.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Newcomb Hall Info Desk, including CIO print requests, lost & found, staff vehicle checkout, and addressing community needs.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Newcomb Hall Info Desk staff; roughly 20 students, including Event Staff Student Managers.
  • Career Development and Programming:
    • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Student Engagement to manage and support the marketing and branding of all Student Engagement areas (1515 Student Center, Student Organizations, Leadership & Service).
    • Develop and deliver marketing materials related to the Student Engagement brand, services, and opportunities.
    • Select, hire, train, and evaluate Student Engagement Program Assistants.
    • Support Student Engagement programs and services.
    • Assist with University events including but not limited to summer orientation, Wahoo Welcome, Family Weekend, and Final Exercises.
  • Policies, Administration, and Unit Leadership:
    • Assist in the facilitation of Student Engagement programs and events, which may include late nights and weekends.
    • Assess programs, events, and trainings for effectiveness, making necessary adjustments.
    • Aid in student support and continuity of University operations in the event of an emergency and/or related institutional closure.
    • Propose budgets, track expenses, and ensure adherence to set limits.
    • Serve on Office, Division, and University committees as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community building.
  • Extensive work in marketing and communication, and student supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or other discipline.
  • Direct experience with marketing and communication, programming, and student activities.
  • Experience leading, hiring, training, and managing a team of either full-time or part-time staff.
