Summary
We are looking for a full-time Operations Supervisor to join our growing Delaware team. This role is responsible for leading Yard Operations, Shipping & Receiving, Truss Line Production, and Steel Fabrication while maintaining the highest standards in safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and inventory control. The Operations Supervisor will directly supervise approximately 20 associates, including up to 7 Yard and Shipping Associates, 7 Truss Line Associates, and 6 Steel Fabrication Associates. This individual will manage people, equipment, materials, and processes to ensure customer requirements and operational objectives are achieved. Key Responsibilities
- Safety & Leadership: Lead by example and promote a safety-first culture. Establish and maintain safe work practices throughout all areas of responsibility. Conduct safety observations, incident investigations, and corrective actions. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies. Foster employee engagement, accountability, and teamwork.
- Operations Management: Supervise daily operations of the yard, shipping and receiving, truss line, and steel fabrication departments. Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and resources to meet production and delivery schedules. Monitor departmental performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Support budgeting, staffing, capital planning, and cost-reduction efforts. Partner with Engineering, Sales, Quality, Logistics, Maintenance, and Production teams to achieve operational goals.
- Shipping, Receiving & Material Flow: Oversee all inbound and outbound material movement activities. Ensure customer deliveries are completed accurately and on time. Manage transportation scheduling and freight coordination. Ensure accurate Bills of Lading, shipping documentation, and inventory transactions. Maintain organized yard storage, material flow, and inventory control processes. Lead inventory reconciliation and cycle count activities. Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Forklift & Equipment Oversight: Oversee safe and efficient forklift operations. Ensure operators remain properly trained and certified. Coordinate equipment maintenance requirements with the Maintenance Department. Promote best practices in material handling and product storage.
- Truss & Steel Fabrication Leadership: Oversee truss line and steel fabrication operations. Ensure production goals are achieved while maintaining safety and quality standards. Support process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste. Ensure proper utilization of equipment, tooling, and labor resources. Assist in resolving manufacturing and production challenges.
- Inventory Control Leadership: Serve as the site leader for Inventory Control and inventory accuracy initiatives. Establish and maintain inventory control processes that ensure accurate and timely material transactions throughout the facility. Lead cycle count programs, physical inventories, inventory audits, and reconciliation activities. Own inventory accuracy across raw materials, work-in-process, purchased components, and finished goods. Analyze inventory variances, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Partner with Purchasing, Production, Engineering, Logistics, and Finance to ensure inventory integrity and material availability. Develop processes that improve material flow, inventory visibility, traceability, and transaction accuracy. Ensure inventory locations are organized, labeled, maintained, and compliant with company standards. Monitor inventory KPI performance and communicate results to plant leadership. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing inventory discrepancies, excess inventory, stock-outs, and material waste. Support annual budget planning, inventory valuation activities, and financial audits as required. Provide training and accountability for inventory-related procedures throughout the facility. Lead the site's inventory governance process and ensure compliance with company inventory policies and procedures.
- Team Development: Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and develop associates. Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback. Administer attendance, corrective action, and performance improvement processes. Build bench strength and support employee growth opportunities. Promote a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Performance & Business Management: Drive departmental Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory (SQDCI) performance. Monitor and communicate key performance indicators including: Safety performance, On-time delivery, Inventory accuracy, Labor productivity, Scrap and rework, Overtime utilization, and Quality metrics. Prepare and present updates during departmental and plant meetings.
Qualifications
- Required:
- 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, fabrication, or similar operational environments.
- Proven ability to lead teams and achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Preferred:
- Forklift operations and material management experience.
- Warehousing and logistics leadership experience.
- Welding and steel fabrication experience.
- Experience supervising production, inventory, shipping, receiving, fabrication, or yard operations.
- NetSuite experience.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Possess a working understanding of welding principles and fabrication processes.
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of material flow, inventory control, and warehouse management principles.
- Knowledge of shipping, receiving, and freight coordination.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and production scheduling.
- Working knowledge of welding principles, fabrication processes, and blueprint interpretation.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements and manufacturing safety practices.
Training & Certification Requirements
- Must successfully complete company-approved welding certification training within the first three years of employment.
- Must successfully complete and maintain RedBuilt forklift certification requirements.
Scope of Responsibility
Direct responsibility for approximately 20 Direct Reports: Up to 7 Yard and Shipping Associates, 7 Truss Line Associates, and 6 Steel Fabrication Associates.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Frequent exposure to forklifts, cranes, welding operations, moving equipment, and manufacturing processes.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, airborne particles, and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, and move throughout the facility.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional overtime and weekend support may be required.
