Production Supervisor (Logistics)
About the Role
The Production Supervisor (Logistics Ops) is responsible for the safe and cost-effective operation of their reporting department(s). This first-line supervisor oversees employees, product cost, budgets, scheduling, revenue goals, metrics, and product quality for assigned product lines.
Responsibilities
- Establishes production goals and manages performance of employees and work centers to achieve and support sales.
- Develops and implements daily and weekly production schedules for all work centers and employees in the department.
- Maintains effective tracking charts, metrics, and tools to accurately reflect department and employee performance.
- Regularly participates in scheduled production meetings, prepared with department status and workflow updates.
- Understands and controls the schedule to project job completions, assisting other departments in resource scheduling.
- Ensures accuracy of department inventory and participates in the weekly cycle counting program.
- Provides weekly metrics and department status to the management team, reporting production trends and effectiveness.
- Ensures department programs and procedures are up to date to support existing and new product designs.
- Supports Sales and Engineering departments with timely input on current production capabilities and limitations.
- Participates in and supports new product development by attending engineering design reviews.
- Develops cross-departmental training plans to ensure safe and cost-effective assembly and testing of products.
- Establishes training programs to maximize employee growth, career development, and cross-training opportunities.
- Sets training goals for the department and maintains accurate training records and certifications.
- Enforces company attendance, appearance, and performance goals.
- Maintains rapport with employees to assess preparedness and alertness for daily performance.
- Develops monitoring tools to control costs and prevent fraud, waste, and theft of company assets.
- Assists with departmental budget development and implements waste-reduction methods.
- Ensures employees understand their impact on cost containment in department operations.
- Supports employee growth with positive reinforcement and administers counseling for negative behavior or substandard performance.
- Ensures documented performance reviews for each employee per company policy.
- Establishes throughput and quality objectives for the department to meet internal and external customer requirements.
- Maintains and reports weekly production metrics and goals to the operations management team.
- Provides goals and work schedules for logistics personnel.
- Reviews on-dock inventory and communicates with Sales and customers for delivery methods.
- Maintains the Kanban system to ensure inventory of shipping supplies.
- Ensures training on department procedures and maintains a training matrix.
- Maintains working relationships with other departments to achieve production goals and on-time customer delivery.
- Communicates with couriers to discuss logistics solutions and fair pricing.
- Manages and supports all customer requirements.
- Resolves logistics issues related to defective or mis-shipped products and assesses cost efficiency.
- Collaborates with logistics technicians, customer service, Sales, Quality, and others involved in shipment and receipt of products.
- Manages shipping priorities to ensure monthly revenue targets are achieved.
- Provides monthly revenue progress and forecast to the Production Manager.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- College degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related field preferred, and/or equivalent combination of education with 5 years of industry experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing leadership roles with demonstrated success in achieving production goals and inventory control.
- Extensive experience with ERP systems and MS-Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and commitment to high-quality standards.
- Ability to prioritize assignments.

Work Environment

- Primarily works indoors in a smoke-free office and manufacturing facility, with occasional outdoor requirements.
- Limited travel required to support offsite personnel and business projects.
- Occasional remote access assignments may include evening or weekend schedules.
- Moderate noise level; may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
