Production Supervisor - Shipping

About the Role

Assists in the orientation, training, development, and assignment of employees within the department while providing leadership direction for the assigned team.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce safety regulations.
  • Determine daily department requirements using input from planning tools and the production manager to ensure daily goals are met.
  • Provide training as needed to meet department needs.
  • Identify daily work tasks for team members utilizing work orders.
  • Accountable for daily/weekly metrics regarding cost, schedule, quality, and safety.
  • Coordinate activities and communicate with Planning, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality Control, and Human Resources departments as needed.
  • Participate in and cultivate team engagement in 6S and process improvement programs (e.g., CITI program, 6S audits).
  • Track daily performance using charts, graphs, or other metric programs.
  • Direct and perform duties as needed to meet department needs in a teamwork environment.
  • Inspect components for fit and finish or interpret departmental trends for anomalies, informing the Department Manager of any issues.
  • Conform with the organization’s ISO 9001 & 14001 requirements.
  • Assist the Production Manager with various tasks as requested.
  • Assist in creating and developing systems, processes, and metrics to drive and maintain improvement across the factory.
  • Generate and coordinate execution of measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Assist production personnel in solving work-related problems.
  • Supervise assemblers, machinists, and/or shipping personnel, including training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, and addressing complaints.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; one to three years of related experience in a factory or manufacturing environment and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence in English and effectively present information to groups of managers, clients, customers, technicians, and assemblers.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to solve problems (e.g., electrical engineering).
  • Strong reasoning ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to work with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs).
  • Ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and kneel.
  • Frequently required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, and communicate clearly and effectively.
  • May be required to lift up to 35 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Moderate to loud noise levels in the work and shop environment.
  • May occasionally work near fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and moving mechanical parts.
