Responsibilities

  • Supervise department personnel and their activities to meet department objectives.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to employees and assign duties.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in solving work problems.
  • Control department overtime.
  • Control department absenteeism.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase department efficiency.
  • Responsible for interviewing, selection, and orientation of subordinates; ensure they receive training and development consistent with responsibilities.
  • Recommend personnel actions such as wage increases, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
  • Interpret company policies to employees.
  • Handle first step in employee counseling.
  • Conduct performance/wage review of all subordinates at least once each year.
  • Responsible for production and personnel reports and record keeping.
  • Responsible for safety, security, first aid, and good housekeeping within the department; encourage, promote, and enforce company policies in these areas.
  • Maintain upward and downward communications regularly to ensure smooth department operations; communicate to superiors specific department objectives, their progress and completion.
  • Work with the scheduler to assure material, equipment, and manpower are available to meet production schedules.
  • Responsible for employee education and implementation of company policies and procedures to meet company requirements including environmental and quality standards.
  • Work with the Quality Assurance department to improve product quality.
  • Accept special assignments and complete them in a timely manner.
  • Understand and utilize the company's systems required for the position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Production and Operations Management or equivalent job experience as a production supervisor.
  • One to three years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing/job shop environment.
  • Knowledge of LEAN concepts.
  • Experience interpreting blueprints and using measuring equipment devices (e.g., micrometers, comparator, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of workplace safety.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
