Producer, Daily News & Public Affairs Program (Public Radio / Broadcasting)

About the Role

One of the most well-resourced public radio stations in the country, ranked number one in the Raleigh metro market, is hiring a producer for its daily news and public affairs program. The show features interviews, analysis, and features on news, politics, culture, and other subjects of interest to North Carolina audiences. The station reaches listeners from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of ten stations.

The producer works in collaboration with the program's co-hosts and fellow producers, reporting to the Executive Producer. The team actively ensures that diverse stories and participants are selected for production and that content is relevant and accessible to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Selecting and researching show topics for the daily program
• Pre-interviewing and booking guests
• Writing scripts and promotional materials
• Editing audio recordings for broadcast
• Creating content for digital and social media platforms
• Participating in fundraising activities and station events
• Occasionally filling in for the Executive Producer

Qualifications

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Creativity and initiative in producing compelling conversation, analysis, and storytelling
• Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines, working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
• Demonstrated ability to include diverse stories and participants in programming
• Familiarity with North Carolina news and culture

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of radio broadcasting equipment and digital editing programs
• Experience with public radio or related nonprofit fundraising
• Experience as an audio producer on a broadcast show or podcast in public media
