PRN Phlebotomist Express Test

Out-patient lab draws and specimen collections.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood and blood cultures, and non-blood specimens including urine, sputum, semen samples, and throat swabs.
• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
• Consistently draw blood with minimal patient discomfort for all age groups from neonates to geriatrics.
• Properly label all specimens in the presence of the patient.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, computer systems, labeling printers, scanners, phone system).
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, clients, and staff.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
• Collect drug screens (internal and external) using Chain of Custody Process, if applicable.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) (preferred).
• Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience.

Skills

• Ability to use a computer keyboard, monitor, mouse, and calculator.
• Proficiency with computer software (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).
• Ability to use fax machines, printers, and other office equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy/hard work requiring strength and stamina: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials/equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stand/walk for the entire shift.

Working Environment

• May require unsupervised access to restricted areas containing medications, supplies, and confidential patient information.
• May require travel between facilities/buildings.
• May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental needs.
