Responsibilities
- Accurately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional medical environment.
- Perform specimen collection using venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections.
- Collect specimens from patients of various acuities, including Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient settings (newborns, intensive care patients, etc.).
- Adhere to and enforce laboratory compliance and safety regulations, including personal protective requirements (gowns, gloves, lab coats, face shields, masks).
- Communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members, demonstrating empathy during every interaction.
- Participate in opportunities for growth, including:
- Patient registration
- Participation in CODE response teams
- Training and mentoring new staff
- Specimen processing
- Special projects and other laboratory responsibilities as assigned
- Take on-call shifts and participate in holiday rotations as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
- Six months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training, or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor (Preferred).
- Organizational skills and ability to navigate multiple computer systems.
- Ability to work well as a team member and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Resilience and professionalism in managing stressful situations.

Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent verbal communication with care providers, patients, and visitors, including hearing and understanding spoken information quickly, especially during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity for operating complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing.
- Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve and carry supplies, and lift heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and distributing supplies, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
- Navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords on the floor.
- May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
- For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs and traffic signals.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $18.94 - $24.62. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
