About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a PRN Lab Assistant to join Johnston-Willis Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, a leading provider of healthcare services.

Responsibilities

• Know, understand, and apply general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section-specific policies/procedures.
• Adhere to all regulatory guidelines and review posted policy changes as required.
• Assess situations, consider options, and formulate appropriate courses of action with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate initial and annual competency in all designated lab sections within set deadlines.
• Accurately perform tasks when scheduled and participate in continuing education activities.
• Complete mandatory facility/corporate training annually or as required within deadlines.
• Assist the laboratory team with miscellaneous duties, including specimen receiving and supply management.
• Organize and complete daily tasks in assigned areas.
• Investigate and resolve specimen collection problems using the Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and specimen tracking tools; document and communicate actions taken.
• Train new employees and/or students on general and department-specific lab policies/procedures.
• Explain procedures and use communication interventions appropriate for all ages and populations.
• Adhere to The Joint Commission (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals for the Laboratory, including patient identification and effective communication with caregivers.

Requirements

• Required: Phlebotomy experience or training, excellent customer service skills.
• Preferred: At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience; specimen handling experience.

Qualifications

• Required: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy training from an approved school or phlebotomy certification.
• Preferred: ASCP/ASPT certified phlebotomist or equivalent.
