About the role
As a Laboratory Assistant at Ogden Regional Medical Center you will be an integral part of a highly functioning team that supports many departments and is passionate about delivering the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing.
Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples, ensuring proper patient identification and accurate labeling.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to the Laboratory.
- Receive specimens into the computer system and deliver them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.
- Maintain strict quality control for all procedures.
- Perform special tests such as glucose tolerance tests.
- Streak plates for microbiology setup, perform and report specific waived testing.
- Maintain records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
- Maintain needed equipment and supplies.
- Provide age- and culturally-appropriate care.
- Orient and mentor new staff members.
- Follow Standard Precautions using required personal protective equipment.
- Provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and office staff.
- Order laboratory tests and, when necessary, send specimens to a reference laboratory.
- Verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.
- Send test results of outpatients to the attending physician.
- Train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Good computer and filing/clerical skills.
- Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Course in medical terminology preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
