PRN Advanced Practice Clinician (Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner) – Seasonal Position (2026 season)

Seasonal position at Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Clinics at Old Faithful, Lake Village, and Mammoth Hot Springs operate from April/May through mid-to-late October.

About the role

The Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) will work in one of three medical clinics within Yellowstone National Park. The Mammoth Hot Springs Clinic provides primary care, occupational health, and urgent/emergency care. The Old Faithful and Lake Village facilities offer urgent/emergency care, occupational healthcare, and limited primary care for park residents and employees. The role involves treating a wide age range of patients with diverse injuries and illnesses.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate, detailed medical reports and records.
• Administer medications, monitor patients for reactions or side effects, and record vital signs.
• Monitor and report changes in patients' conditions.
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Modify patient treatment plans based on responses and conditions.
• Prepare patients for examinations or treatments and maintain sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Inform physicians of patient conditions during anesthesia and administer local, inhalation, intravenous, or other anesthetics.
• Conduct specified laboratory tests and direct or coordinate infection control programs.
• Prescribe or recommend drugs, medical devices, or other forms of treatment.
• Perform physical examinations and provide or arrange training for auxiliary personnel and students.
• Treat patients, secure patients for transport, and transfer patients to medical facilities from remote locations, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
• Operate and manipulate patient gurneys in outdoor environments and rescue victims by rendering emergency care and moving patients from danger.
• Independently care for acutely and critically ill patients, including:
  • Interpret ECGs and rhythm strips.
  • Obtain and interpret plain radiographs, including extremity and chest films.
  • Manage cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Stabilize major trauma, including vehicular trauma and trauma from animal attacks.
  • Stabilize critically ill or injured patients.
  • Manage myocardial infarction, including administration of thrombolytic agents.
  • Perform airway management with Rapid Sequence Airway.
  • Administer procedural sedation.
  • Manage orthopedic injuries, including closed reduction of dislocations and fracture stabilization.
• Identify and report IT, hardware, or telecommunications issues impacting duties.
• Utilize IT systems for database tracking and other deliverables.
• Complete mandatory IT training and inform supervisor of equipment needs.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in an Emergency Department or ICU as a provider; independent setting preferred.
• Highly organized with the ability to assign tasks and delegate work efficiently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to appropriately escalate problems or resource issues for resolution.
• Proficient with Electronic Medical Records.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an NCCPA-approved PA Program or NP Masters/Doctorate Program.
• Current and active licensure in any of the 50 states or Washington, D.C. at the time of application; Wyoming unrestricted license required by the first day of work.
• Certifications:
  • American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification (or equivalent).
  • ACLS.
  • ATLS (Audit acceptable) or CALS (may be acquired after hire with mutually agreed schedule).
  • PALS (or equivalent) (may be acquired after hire with mutually agreed schedule).

Working Conditions

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle and feel, reach with arms, grip, and grasp.
• Frequently stands for long periods; may sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend over 90 degrees, use ladders, stairs, reach overhead, or lay prone.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception required.
• Work primarily indoors in clinic buildings but may assist patients to/from vehicles using wheelchairs or gurneys.
• May be exposed to emergencies and high-activity periods.
• Travel between clinics may be required, including for orientation depending on location.
