North Port Behavioral Health is a premier mental health and substance misuse hospital seeking passionate Registered Nurses to work at our 144-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in North Port, FL. We provide 24-hour nursing care for adolescents (13-17), adults (18+), and seniors (55+) struggling with behavioral and addiction disorders.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will facilitate admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care and appropriate resource utilization. This role involves collaborating with medical and psychiatric teams to support patient admissions and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

  • Review medical documentation for all admissions, complete medication reconciliation, and obtain admission orders from physicians.
  • Facilitate emergency transfers for patients with conditions outside the facility’s capabilities.
  • Review referrals from hospitals, facilities, and community agencies for medical and behavioral acuity, responding within facility policy timeframes.
  • Respond to inquiries about the facility and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Conduct assessments to determine the appropriate level of care within the facility.
  • Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate admissions and recommendations.
  • Facilitate the admissions process, including assessment, consent, and inventory of patient belongings.
  • Perform insurance benefit verifications and secure initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission.
  • Monitor patient status throughout the admissions process in accordance with facility policy and physician orders.
  • Utilize web-based programs to track and review referrals.
  • Communicate projected admissions to designated internal representatives promptly.
  • Ensure all clinical information from referral sources or patients is received prior to admission.
  • Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with admitting physicians, and communicate disposition recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain medical record documentation to support authorization for the requested level of care.
  • Complete initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission within payor timeframe guidelines.
  • Admit patients to the registration and accounting system, completing all admission and consent forms.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward patients and families, prioritizing patient safety.
  • Coordinate care for patients not admitted, ensuring appropriate follow-up and referrals.
  • Conduct safety checks and supervision at 15-minute intervals as required by special precautions or individualized guidelines.
  • Perform other assigned functions and tasks.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Interacting with patients and their families.
  • Treatment planning and completing shift reports.
  • Rounding and monitoring in the milieu.
  • Medication administration.
  • Collaborating with Behavioral Health Associates (BHAs).
  • Following up on incidents.
  • Completing nursing assessments and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Nursing.
  • At least one year of experience working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity, preferably in the specialty area of the hiring facility.
  • Clear and active nursing license in the state of Florida.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification (training available upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be required based on state or facility regulations.
  • Successful completion of a Level 2 Background Screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Schedule

PRN position with 12-hour shifts available.
