PRN Registered Nurse

About the Role

Supports the Organization’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the Organization Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and policy requirements. Provides direct nursing care before, during, and after procedures under the direction of the Facility Manager, Director of Nursing, and/or Charge Registered Nurse, utilizing standard nursing techniques to assist the physician in achieving optimal patient outcomes while following facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Quality:
  • Supports and drives organizational quality standards through meeting regulatory and accrediting body requirements and practicing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), including the use of CQI tools.
  • Assists with the implementation of organizational quality goals and facility-specific action plans.
  • Ensures outstanding quality of patient care as defined by organizational quality goals, adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Addresses and acts on adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management.
  • Maintains the integrity of medical records and other administrative and operational records.
  • Complies with all data collection and auditing activities.
  • Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety.
• Patient Care:
  • Obtains necessary medical history, discusses procedures, answers questions, and performs nursing assessments on the day of the procedure.
  • Provides education to patients and families regarding post-procedure care of vascular access.
  • Monitors patient condition before, during, and after the procedure, especially for patients undergoing moderate sedation and contrast media injections.
  • Acts as a resource for patients to address concerns and questions.
  • Completes accurate documentation of patient information from admission to discharge.
  • Confirms written orders, consents, and lab work are completed and documented per facility policies.
  • Prepares and manages lab requisitions, delivers samples to labs, and reports results to physicians.
  • Maintains competency with emergency procedures and initiates CPR and emergency measures as needed.
  • Administers medications and IV moderate sedation per physician’s orders, complying with all regulations.
  • Acts as a scrub technologist to assist physicians during procedures, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Assists with patient transport as needed.
  • Performs point-of-care laboratory testing per physician’s orders and regulatory compliance.
  • Performs IV insertion per physician orders.
  • Performs additional tasks as designated by the physician, practicing in compliance with state regulations.
• Physician Support:
  • Provides regular and effective communication with physicians as needed.
  • Attends and participates in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics.
  • Assists facility management in verifying necessary instruments and equipment.
  • Assists in completing and reporting state-required adverse event reports per organizational policy.
• Maintenance and Technical Duties:
  • Operates facility equipment (e.g., patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, sterilizers, computers) safely and efficiently.
  • Inspects facility equipment and reports malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Inspects facility operating systems, including temperature checks and physical structure, reporting issues to the Facility Manager.
  • Ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment at all times.
  • Addresses blood spills immediately according to organizational Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
• Administrative Duties:
  • Assists with efficient utilization of medications, laboratory supplies, inventory, and equipment to meet supply cost goals.
  • May assist in developing and revising facility policies and procedures for continuous process improvement.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including monthly reports and meetings.
  • Maintains medication supply, including inventory control, checking for expired medications, and recording controlled substances as required by law.
  • Completes usage logs for medications and records of drug disposal per legal requirements.
  • Assists with maintaining facility supply inventory, including ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Examines and stocks emergency equipment, including the crash cart, on a regular basis.
  • Completes medical records accurately and in compliance with organizational policies prior to patient discharge.
  • Performs regular chart audits.
  • May participate in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans.
  • Completes state-required records for implanted devices accurately and timely.
  • Participates in staff meetings, training, and orientation as assigned.
  • Complies with HIPAA policies regarding patient information and medical records.
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
• Current appropriate state licensure and ACLS certification required.
• 4–6 years of related experience preferred.
• Experience in Office-Based Surgical Centers, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Vascular Access, Cardiac Cath Labs, Interventional Radiology, ICU/CCU, or emergency departments preferred.
• Proficient in IV insertion and cardiac rhythm recognition.
• Experience with medical database software.
• Certified in BLS and ACLS.
• Proficient in the use of computers and software such as Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Day-to-day work includes desk and computer tasks, interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians.
• Provides direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids or coworkers may assist.
• Requires frequent prolonged standing and bending over.
• May occasionally move patients and equipment up to 200 lbs with assistance.
• Work environment is temperature-controlled with moderate noise levels.
• May be exposed to infectious or contagious diseases, materials, and radiation.
• May require wearing protective gear in procedure rooms for extended periods.
