About the role
A postdoctoral scholar appointment is designed to provide recent doctoral degree recipients with an opportunity to gain experiences and skills that will advance their careers. The postdoc works under the supervision and sponsorship of a regular faculty member, who serves as a mentor. The faculty sponsor provides an orientation and development plan, imparts the realities and variety of careers available, and encourages learning opportunities to broaden the postdoc’s aspirations and experiences.
The appointment involves a substantial and full-time commitment to research, scholarship, teaching, or other professional activities. Eligibility for annual reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory annual performance evaluations, continuity of funding, and departmental need.
Focus area
Within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, postdoctoral candidates with research interests in literacy instruction and intervention for students with and at risk for learning disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
Faculty in the department conduct grant-funded research, including projects funded through the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), and other branches of the U.S. Department of Education. These projects investigate evidence-based instruction for students with and at risk for disabilities, professional development models that support teachers in implementing these practices, and typical classroom practice.
