About the role

Elmira College seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member in Inclusive / Special Education (1-12) to teach courses in the Teaching Students with Disabilities (All Grades) Teacher Preparation program. Teaching assignments may include methods courses, practicum-based instruction, student teacher supervision, and other classes in the Undergraduate Teacher Education Program. Faculty also advise students, engage in service-related activities, and initiate research leading to scholarly presentations and publications. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core Undergraduate Teacher Education courses within the area of Inclusive / Special Education (up to 24 credits of instruction per academic year).
  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction, and evaluation.
  • Participate in academic and career advising.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research and publications.
  • Create new courses and participate in the development of new areas of concentration.
  • Demonstrate a genuine desire to teach and participate fully in a liberal arts environment emphasizing close student-faculty interaction.

Qualifications

  • Expertise and Teacher Certification in Inclusive / Special Education.
  • At least 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of K-12 special education settings (including inclusive and/or self-contained positions across multiple grade levels).
  • Preferred: Additional Teacher Certification in Childhood Education.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field (ABD status considered with conferral date no later than June 30, 2027).
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, as well as strong organizational and time management skills.

On-site at Elmira College in Elmira, New York.

Pay

$58,000 - $60,000 per year.
