About the role
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Raymond Bergan in the Department of Medicine. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research experiments in the field of cancer cell biology and cell motility, including in vitro and in vivo (mouse model) studies of prostate cancer cell migration and its therapeutic modulation by selective chemical probes.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field, such as mass spectrometry-based proteomics, functional enrichment and network analysis, and structural bioinformatics, to analyze the collected data.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
Requirements
- Doctoral Degree (PhD) or foreign equivalent in Cancer Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
Skills
- Research Laboratory skills that include, but not limited to PCR, generation of stable lentiviral cell lines, western blotting, immunofluorescence staining and confocal microscopy; cell proliferation and migration assays, including Boyden chamber and wound-healing/scratch assays.
- In Vivo mouse techniques, including handling and restraint, oral gavage and subcutaneous intraperitoneal and intravenous (tail-vein) injections.
- Mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning (Gibson, In-Fusion, and restriction enzyme cloning), primer and construct design in SnapGene, site-directed mutagenesis, and molecular knockout.
- Mass spectrometry-based proteomics, including data deposition and retrieval through the PRIDE (Proteomics Identifications) database.
- Bioinformatic data analysis, including pathway and ontology enrichment (ORA and GSEA) using clusterProfiler, WebGestalt, g:Profiler, Enrichr, or QIAGEN Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA); protein–protein interaction and functional network analysis using the STRING database and Cytoscape; and structural contextualization by mapping peptides and PTM sites onto 3D protein structures from the Protein Data Bank (PDB), AlphaFold DB, or UCSF ChimeraX.
- Statistical analysis and data visualization using GraphPad Prism.
- Scientific writing, peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research Lab experience in cancer cell biology and cell motility/migration in prostate cancer models.
- Hands-on experience in the listed advanced molecular and bioinformatic techniques.
