This is a full-time seasonal position without benefits for a fixed duration.

About the role

Performs lifesaving skills, provides instructional swimming lessons to children and adults, and monitors performance of lifeguards. Oversees facility inspections, directs staff, and monitors patrons. Manages lifeguard schedules, water pH balance, payroll timesheets, and daily cash handling and deposits.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage a group of lifeguards, including:
    • Time scheduling
    • Lifeguard rotation scheduling
    • Clean-up scheduling
    • Vacuum and filtration scheduling
    • Daily water pH balance checks
    • Other duties specified by the Aquatic Supervisor
  • Manage and maintain pool facility, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Handle and manage swimming pool cash flow operations, including cash deposits.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, including public service announcements and program registrations.
  • Respond appropriately under emergency situations.
  • Assist in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
  • Follow all rules of telephone courtesy in communications.
  • Drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Good health and physical condition sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Frequent exposure to:
    • Extreme cold (below 32 degrees) and extreme heat (above 100 degrees)
    • Moving mechanical parts
    • Loud noises (85+ decibels, e.g., heavy trucks, jackhammers, construction)
  • Occasional exposure to:
    • Unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards
    • Outside work
    • Individuals who are hostile or irate
    • Fumes or airborne particles
    • Toxic or caustic chemicals or substances
  • Seldom exposure to:
    • Individuals with known violent backgrounds
    • Communicable diseases
    • Street environment (near moving traffic), construction sites, confined spaces, or vehicles
  • Often works in outdoor environments; local travel required.
  • Physical effort includes exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least two (2) seasons of work experience as a lifeguard.
  • At least one (1) year of supervising personnel and a program, and work experience in handling cash.
  • Valid Texas Driver License (or ability to obtain one within 6 months if holding an out-of-state license).
  • Required certifications (copies must be attached to the application):
    • Lifeguard Certificate
    • First Aid Certificate
    • CPR for Professional Rescuers Certificate
