POOL – School of Business Instructor: Finance & Economics

About the role

Instructors serve as either part-time or full-time members of the faculty in the School of Business. FTE is determined by the course load. Instructors are a non-tenure track faculty position. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate and/or graduate courses offered by the School of Business on the Lawrence Campus, off campus programs, and/or online programs. Appointments are one semester, renewable, subject to review and funding.

This is a union-covered position within the collective bargaining unit represented by United Academics of KU, AFT-AAUP, AFL-CIO. As the State of Kansas is a right-to-work state, membership in the union is optional.

Responsibilities

100% Teaching. Teach one or more courses in finance or economics. Courses may be required or electives, in undergraduate or graduate programs, and range from 1-4 credit hours. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Course preparation
• Instruction
• Consultations
• Assignment of grades

Instructors must abide by the area's, School's, and University's policies and procedures.

Requirements

For undergraduate courses:

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or closely related field.
• A demonstrated record of teaching in an academic setting or a record of mentorship, leadership, or training experience in a professional setting.

For master’s level courses: Meets one of the following combinations of education and professional experience:

• A terminal degree/professional degree in a relevant discipline, OR
• A master’s degree plus seven years of relevant experience.

• A demonstrated record of teaching, training, research, scholarship, or professional achievement.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure foundational knowledge and skill set.

Preferred Qualifications

• A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching courses in finance and/or economics.
• A strong record of professional experience in information systems or a related field.
• Ability to design and deliver new courses successfully.
• Strong ties to the professional business community as demonstrated by employment or consulting activities.

Advertised salary range is competitive, depending on experience and qualifications. Anticipated start date is Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
