Instructors serve as either part-time or full-time members of the faculty in the School of Business. FTE is determined by the course load. This is a non-tenure track faculty position. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate and/or graduate courses offered on the Lawrence Campus, off-campus programs, and/or online programs. Appointments are one semester, renewable, subject to review and funding.

About the role

100% Teaching. Teach one or more courses in finance or economics. Courses may be required or electives, in undergraduate or graduate programs, and range from 1-4 credit hours. Duties include course preparation, instruction, consultations, and assignment of grades. Instructors must abide by the area's, School's, and University's policies and procedures.

Requirements

For undergraduate courses:

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline or closely related field
  • A demonstrated record of teaching in an academic setting or a record of mentorship, leadership, or training experience in a professional setting

For master’s level courses:

  • Meets one of the following:
    • A terminal degree/professional degree in relevant discipline, OR
    • A master’s degree plus seven years of relevant experience
  • A demonstrated record of teaching, training, research, scholarship, or professional achievement

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure foundational knowledge and skill set.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching courses in finance and/or economics
  • A strong record of professional experience in information systems or related field
  • Ability to design and deliver new courses successfully
  • Strong ties to the professional business community as demonstrated by employment or consulting activities

This position is union-covered within the collective bargaining unit represented by United Academics of KU, AFT-AAUP, AFL-CIO. As the State of Kansas is a right-to-work state, union membership is optional without repercussions.
