Policy Accounting Consultant

Responsibilities

• Support the Policy Accounting team in oversight, reconciliation, certification, and reporting of policy accounting activity.
• Run Tableau reports and review policy-level accounting activity for completeness and accuracy.
• Perform daily reconciliations for premiums, separate account activity, units, commissions, NACHA transactions, and loan payments.
• Update and validate asset-based service fee payments in a Microsoft Access database.
• Maintain the audit log for policy disbursements including surrenders, death claims, withdrawals, and loans.
• Research reconciliation differences and collaborate with business partners to resolve outstanding items.
• Ensure reconciliation results, explanations, and supporting documentation meet audit requirements.
• Afford assistance with special projects and other accounting activities as needed.
• Prepare and upload general ledger journal entries to the SAP system.
• Reconcile monthly balance sheet accounts and prepare scheduled accounting and operational reports.
• Support the timely and accurate completion of month-end close requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience with debit and credit transactions and a strong understanding of accounting principles.
• Prior proven account reconciliation experience with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and independently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Insurance, life insurance, or policy accounting experience.
